TULSA, Okla. Former state Board of Education member Joy Hofmeister is trying to become just the second Republican in Oklahoma history to be elected as its top education official. The first to do it is the current superintendent of public instruction, former dentist Janet Barresi, who Hofmeister soundly trounced in the GOP primary, besting her in all 77 of the state's counties.
